Doc,

Thanks for all of your great work on the May and November FCA Thunderhill track event websites. I particularly like the May pix with my motorhome in the background of almost every shot as well as movie #2 in November's site featuring my car on the straight. Love that sound! I trust you will post your November work at the FCA Pacifc website. Keep up the great work!

Hi Dave,

We got back from Dallas and then turned right around and headed for the Redwood Run which is held each year near Garberville. Just got back from the cycle run this afternoon. All went well with both the Dallas FCA Meet and the Redwood Run, but it is good to back home for awhile. Sorry we did not make the Thunder Hill event, but we made up for it by running our Ferrari 2000 miles from Dallas back to San Francisco. Glad you had a good time at the track and met some of the local FCA members. They are a good and very active group of enthusiasts. Wish I still had time to do more of the Pacific Region events, but the powers-that-be keep me quite busy at the national level. Now that Dallas is over, I will be fulltime on Pebble Beach until that is over in August, and then it is hard over to the Palm Beach Cavallino Classic, and so it goes. Thanks for the Thunder Hill photos and the pics of the Caboose. Wow, neat little railcar! Hope to see you guys soon.

Best Regards....Ed

Doc, hey your sites are way kool. The steam engine is a real project. Going to forward to my partner in Austria, Hans loves trains. You have a nice collection of "Stuff".

We are having a Vette & Exotic all FREE car show at Harveys the 4th of July. Free trophies, free lunch, Bar-B-Q and concert. We have about 100 cars so far. Sme Cobras, Ferrari, and a bunch of Vettes. How about another Italian breed?

Got back from Reno and Summit Racing. Got a new helmet. Going to the all Corvette Drags with the ZR1 this Sunday. Really a good turn out. WIll try to get into the 12s with this car. Hit 13:56 two year ago. A few of my friends with Vettes are going. Got to put equal miles on the toys. Hope you like the TH site add-on. Takes a bit to load but for the guys that did not make it, they will get a kick out of it. Early morning, hitting the hay. Thanks for the picks, I am always behind the camera,
Take care, Mike

Hi Dave,

Good to hear from you. We have been out of town for a few days and just got back. Thank you for the offer of a website; I think I may take you up on that. Let me think about what would be in it. Glad to hear that you are still considering a Ferrari. The factory-sponsored national club is the Ferrari Club of America. If I have done things right, you should be able to click on the words I just typed and get it. It is the factory-recognized national club with 5000 members and 15 Regions. Our region, your region, is the Pacific Region. The FCA Pacific Region also has a website which you can access by referring to the Links on the parent FCA website. I have been in the Pacific Region since it started in 1976 and it is a great group of about 600 people. There are meetings, socials, and runs here in Northern California every month. If you need more info after referring to the club sites, please let me know. You should be able to join both the national and the regional organizations online.

It is the Ferrari Club of America that you should join. There is a Ferrari Owners Club, but it is not the national club. It is basically a Los Angeles organization and there are no chapters in Northern California.

We may be up your way in late April-early May depending on the route the organizers use. I am talking about the California Mille. Our 1934 Ford Roadster has been accepted! A thousand miles with the big boys in their sports racers. Should be fun. I did not expect to be accepted, but when the organizers found that we had an all-original stock '34 roadster, they were delighted. Said that if the little roadsters had been in Italy at the time, they would surely have been running in the real Mille Miglia. And so our little Ginger is going to mixup it up with the racecars.

If you find a good Testarossa, I will be happy to find out what I can about it before you commit. A big hug to Becky.

I am printing below here a letter I just faxed to Senator Maurice Johannessen about the Smog Alert I saw on the official Pacific Region of the Ferrari Club of America. In fact ... Ed Gilbertson had lunch with me and Senator Maurice Johannessen when he and Sherry where up at our home last year.

Senator Maurice Johannessen
Capitol Office
Fax (916) 445-7750

Dear Maurice,
Long time no see … Becky & I have joined the Ferrari Club of America … (looking for a Testarossa like Joe's) .. one of the club officials is really worried about Davis trying to circumvent the 25yr old smog exemption law … here is what he has printed about it on the web site …. Hope Maryann is doing well … glad so many showed up for the fund raiser we had for you guys last summer with the steam locomotive rides …
Here is that note about the smog thing ….

>>>>>>>>>>>>

Our favorite pastime is under attack by zealots in State government. A new bill has been introduced in the Senate (S.B. 1172) that is targeted on doing away with older cars. It would essentially repeal S.B.42 the bill of several years ago that exempted pre-1973 vehicles from smog checks. It is not just a few State Senators or even Assemblymen that are out to get us. The insidious threats come from within the Executive Branch, specifically C.A.R.B., the California Air Resources Board, and the Bureau of Automotive Repair.

Page 2

We want to not only stop S.B. 1172 in its tracks but we want to bring extreme political pressure on Gov. Gray Davis to reign in his minions. It is important to write to your Senator, your Assemblyman and to the Governor and to express your concerns. Do so in a straight forward and forceful fashion. Incorporate facts and be logical.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Now back to Doc hemp .....

Our official website for the Ferrari Club is http://www.ferrariclubofamerica.org/

And you know me .. our unofficial Ferrari web site for them is http://www.dochemp.com/ferrari.html …..

I know how we both love racing and the great time we had down at Laguna Seca, etc. All your great & very fast sports cars you own … hope this bill can be killed … reply if you have time …if not ..just drive out to the house one of these nice weekends … a cigar and a little port wine … check out my new tractor and I'll fly some of our R.C. airplanes for you too (a new hobby as if I didn't have enough already - grin)

Kindest Regards,

Dave & Becky Hemp
