The B.A.D. is a totally private noncommercial railroad. We do have our personal favorite fund raisers with a picnic, pig roast and train rides.

I (doc hemp) shoveled about 16 tons of road base & my son Wes about 4 tons. These pics below show the initial placement of the track before road base even. We also plan at least one tunnel, and probably 2 trestles. This would be a 10 year project. We have room for a couple miles of track eventually.

These photos above shows the track sections being pre- fabricated at Harris Locomotive Works, with steel ties welded in, in straight & curves. The curves are in a 45' radius. The weight of each 30' section is 300lbs. I used all new 12 pound rail.

This shows the crane tractor trailer that delivered this 5 tons of track!

This is how we move all this track into place = as of 8/22/98 we had bolted over 720' of track into place and tons more since! Shown on Mel's Hydrolic Mule is Mel himself, and another of my good friends, Ray Bennett who lives & breaths STEAM! These 2 guys are the Steam engine Professionals!! Couldn't have even started this project without their help!! After my pals leave I have been using lights & have been working up to 19 hrs/day shimming, leveling & bolting sections of rail together. I am as compulsive as ever = had to come home early this afternoon today Monday 8/23/98 with a summer cold. 8/29/98 - I prolly shoveled over 10 ton of road base myself so far - before & after work every day & weekends. We have a lot of the road base done & the track leveled - thanks also in a large part to Dave Moeller - our neighbor from across the street who also came over & helped mornings & on the weekends. Dave is retired and was Simpson Paper & Lumber CO. Corporate President and was also head engineer in charge of building their Co-Generation Plant.
Mel Nethery has also been a great help & put in 2 full days at 105 degree heat to help. Mel is retired from his stock brokerage Co. Mel has one of the finest G Scale Garden Railroads in the world & lives about 2 miles from us.

This is my proud neighbor to the left (Dr. Ed Bigelow - Orthodontist Extraordinaire) Striking a very convincing pose! But as we all know is obviously FROM THE WRONG SIDE OF THE TRACKS!! HEE-HEE!

Below see a series of shots traveling on below Mel & Ray to your left & down & around about 3/4th of the layout - goes down into the station area, on around through the horse shoe pits, across our entry way drive (already cut out waiting to be repaved), and on through our Redwood grove of 10 trees, on over to the South fence on our border with the Bigelow's, up along our fence & Northeast into our grove of Oak trees.
