HARLEY HILL CLIMBERS

We are dedicating this site to Robert Casebeer ...

Becky's Brother and one of my Best Friends ... Bob passed away recently and we will really miss you my friend ... we were friends before Becky and I ever got married in 1963 ... drag racing in his push button Plymouth Fury ... some of the wildest rides I have ever had in my life to this day ... I will miss our annual Chico, end of the year, last race for the Outlaw's Sprint Car Race, with Bob and his best friend Roger Reed. We will also miss Bob at our annual Kule April Nites Car Show where we would spend all weekend reliving the old days. We would usually meet Henry Hathaway there with his award winning El Camino, among others.
Bob, as wild as he was, actually kept me out of many fights in my teenage years .... he was 2 years older and would say .... you don't want to do that .... my folks will BLAME ME if you do!

From left to right - Rusty Patten, Jimmy True, Roger Reed, Jim Carpenter, (From our Cool Links Room go to the American Historic Motorcyles Races to see how Jim is doing = placed 3rd - 5/17/98) Bob Casebeer. (The Big 5 at the Hollister 50th Reunion) ... and Bob is my brother - in - law & didn't even tell me they were running their Nitro Methane fire breathin Dragon ridin by Jimmy True at the hill climbs there ... Hell, the Hell's Angels even treated me better than that while I was down there - Hee-hee! Following are a few pics of this sport which is " The fastest drag racers machine up & over the cliff thru the light wins with it's rider ... Dead or Alive!" And that IS THE TRUTH! The only difference is that his friends run the Champagne through their kidneys first before they pour it over him if he kicks the bucket!! These guys are just pragmatic! - hee-he!

Most of these photos are by Ron Burch - Famous Professional Drag Racing Photographer. He has done countless magazine covers & layouts! He is also a pal to these guys, and especially Bob Casebeer (Eveyone has to be a little crazy I guess - just joking Bob). Ron can be reached to purchase any # of the millions of Drag Race photos he has covered umpteen years or to have your magazine hire him, etc. at Ron Burch Drag Photos - 1651 Beach Park Blvd. Foster City, CA 94404 (415) 341- 5593 (again we - doc & Becky Hemp take no moneys from any persons we mention on our hobby pages, but just like helping out those special few with such great talents)

Overview of typical hill

March 31, 1985 - Vince Bertolucci out of Sacramento - a legend in Hill climbing - photo by Ron Burch as are most of these. Vince it is rumored is racing cars now too & he is in his 70's. There are those that risk dying to really live! And there are those that live their entire life dying & risk nothing. (Doc Hemp gem)

Here is an email from Vince Bertolucci 1/06/06

Here is recent email I received 8/30/06 ... so any of you hillclimb experts and historians contact these guys for this documentary .....

My name is Craig VanHyning and my cousin Chris is a AMA Pro Hillclimber. We are currently trying to put together a documentary about hillclimbing from the beginning to current.

We have spoke with many of the hillclimbing families (2nd, 3rd generation) and asked them for help, we are looking for old footage of hillclimbs, still photos and stories.

If any one out there is interested in contributing to this project or is interested in finding out more about it Please email us at DigitalExtremeFoto@mac.com

Thanks,

Craig VanHyning
